Kinda fun. Some strategy involved....

On the scale of Yuck to Feast, I'd rate this one "mystery meat pot pie"
Well it's a gacha style game, so it's definitely not healthy, but so far I'm rather enjoying it. The UI is crisp, and I am a fan of whatever you want to call the pixel/sprites/presentation, even if it's probably low budget.
I haven't hit any pay walls yet, and the F2P factor seems fairly generous. I am catching glimpses of either a P2W leading edge/crowd, or a group that may or may not have gotten a head start (that would be annoying). All of my matches appear to be against bots so far, which is concerning for a lack of community, but it does avoid the painful PvP intro, and there's a decent amount of PvE content too. Whales are dumb (if not necessary for long term survival of games like these), but I'm already tempted to drop a few bucks if I can find some budget values in the store.
The basic game play loop is short battles of 3-5 vs. 3-5, where half the strategy is your initial choice of starting position and team composition, and then the other half of the strategy is playing it out reasonably not stupid. Which makes it somewhat easy on the brain, and casually fun. It's not complex or unique, but there is a decent variety of game modes to mix it up a bit and overall it is...competent.
Better than expected so far. Thanks Camex.

A review from someone who's started playing on day 2 of PC release:
Not as good as it could be, but it's an early access game to keep an eye on. Key words: Early Access.
To start, it is very obviously pc port of a P2W mobile game. It's monetization copies Clash Royale, being that you gain card for each of your characters through winning games and/or buying them directly with buyable in-game currency. You then use the cards to upgrade your characters through currency obtained the same ways. For some reason, I don't seem to be getting matched in multiplayer with people who have realized this is a thing yet.
The gameplay is based on that of South Park: The Fractured but Whole and Fire Emblem, but it is also very minimal and should be much more fleshed out before leaving early access. Each character only consists of a basic attack, a special ability that becomes available after a set amount of turns, and a passive ability you get through upgrading, with the options to skip your turn, defend, or summon another character when playing. The character summoning isn't actually broken, as it's just only adding another character to the playing field after starting the game to counter your opponent's team choice. Similar to upgrading cards, I'm not getting matched with players who do this, either.
The character roster is small, being only 18 characters, though early access comes into play once again with the assumption that more will be added down the road. Some of the characters are very inaccurate to their mythical counterparts (since this game is based on ancient myths). One notable example of this is that Goliath, the human giant slayed by David in the bible, is a gargoyle (Game's own words, not mine). The artwork is much more pixelly than it should be, though I'm playing this game in windowed mode and it could be a bug. Speaking of pixels and windowed mode, the selection for resolution comes up in a menu before the game is launched, which is very weird and should just be in the in-game settings instead.
All in all, this is a game that I would otherwise be giving a negative review, but since early access is a factor I'm taking into consideration, and since I'm optimistic for its development, I'm giving it a thumbs up until further notice.

Before I played Arena Tactics, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
