Panel houses, snow, overcast sky, tiny kitchen, shabby staircase… It’s Winter is an indie game which genre could be classified as sandbox, post-soviet, sad 3d, russian sadness. Nothing awaits you: there is no chance to get out, no room for adventures and breathtaking plot. Just a broken radio, refrigerator filled with food, loneliness and endless snow.
This game created by Ilya Mazo in collaboration with well-known underground game designer Alexander Ignatov (sad3d) is a part of the “ШХД: ЗИМА” multi-platform project which consists of the book, music album, short film and theatre play.

I remember late Novembers, waking up early in the morning, it's still dark outside, glancing at the window, if street lights have this creamy orange glow it means it finally has snowed. Winters were my favorite season because of the evenings like this. Could stand under the street light and stare at the falling snowflakes forever. It has been a while I took a walk like that.
It's more of a visual art piece than a game, but I bought it on a sale and had an emotional experience, eh. It's a memory from my childhood and youth, but to some it's an Eastern European aesthetic, I guess.
p.s I'm pretty sure there is a beauty salon on the first floor of apartment building called ELIZA in EVERY post Soviet city.

Much like life in Russia, its short, its cold, its atmospheric and it manages to be more meaningful than its alternatives. But it can also be tragically low in content for its price.
That being said, its a bold existence but not the most exciting one for many. But its tragic isolation and melancholy environment is gorgeously composed in a few, brisk notes of a greater song - long forgotten, having faded away into background noise...

As long as you know what you're getting into and don't expect anything to actually happen, the game holds all its promises !
I would have liked to be able to rate it as a so-so game.
It's not interesting, there is nothing but dead ends, I wouldn't recommend to buy it.
But can I rate it as a bad game ? No, as I said, it's exactly how it is depicted by the devs.
